SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Connecticut College held Mount Holyoke College to its second lowest score of the season, defeating a disciplined Lyons team 64-37 in a non-conference basketball game Saturday afternoon in Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.

Mount Holyoke (1-9) committed only 17 turnovers, the Lyons' second-lowest total of the season, to Connecticut College's 15 giveaways. But the visiting Camels dominated the boards by a 47-23 margin.

The Camels shot the ball with great accuracy in the first half, going 7-12 (.583) from the floor in the first quarter and 7-10 (.700) in the second quarter to build a 41-18 lead at intermission. Mount Holyoke played Connecticut College evenly in the second half, but couldn't cut into the Camels' big lead.

Two of the Camels' tallest players led the way for the visitors. Charlotte Head had a team-high 13 points to go with five rebounds off the bench for the Camels, and Rebecca Oberman-Levine had 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

First-year guard Alex Twomey (Nutley, N.J.) carried the offensive load for Mount Holyoke, scoring 20 points on 6-13 shooting from the field, 4-7 from three, and 4-5 at the free-throw line. Sophomore Marley Berano (Lady Lake, Fla.) added seven points, while sophomore Cal McGonagle (Yarmouth, Maine) led the Lyons in rebounds (7), assists (4) and steals (2).

Six different Camels scored in the first quarter in building an early 13-4 lead that turned into a 17-9 advantage after one period.

Twomey made a pair of 3-pointers early in the second quarter, closing the gap to 20-15. But the Camels outscored the Lyons 21-3 over the final seven minutes of the half to assert control of the game, with Oberman-Levine (9 points) and Aislinn McMahon (8 points) combining for 17 points in the decisive run.

Mount Holyoke held Connecticut College to 3-15 (.200) shooting in the third quarter. In the final 40 seconds of the period, Berano had a steal and a layup. Catherine Cole answered with a 3-pointer for the Camels, but before the buzzer Twomey was fouled on a 3-pointer and made all three of her foul shots, as the Lyons entered the fourth quarter trailing 52-27.

Head (7 points) and Hallie O'Toole (5) did all of Connecticut College's scoring in the fourth quarter as the Camels added two more points to their lead before the final buzzer. Twomey scored seven points in the final quarter, recording her third 20-point game of the season.

Mount Holyoke will host Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday at 6pm.
