Basketball concludes trip to Puerto Rico with loss to Geneseo

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico -- The Mount Holyoke College basketball team fell 67-27 to a strong SUNY Geneseo team on Friday morning, as the Lyons concluded play in the Puerto Rico Clasico at Coliseo Mario Morales.

Geneseo (7-3) held Mount Holyoke (1-12) to 9-of-54 shooting from the floor (.167) and 7-42 from three-point territory (.167), while making 28-60 shots of its own from the field (.467) and outrebounding the Lyons 45-24.

The Knights held a 20-11 lead after one quarter, then outscored Mount Holyoke 32-5 over the second and third quarters in building an insurmountable 52-16 lead through three periods.

Kerry Dennin led Geneseo with 13 points and 11 rebounds, the only Knight to score in double figures. Kiley Snow added nine points and four assists.

Sophomore Cal McGonagle (Yarmouth, Maine) scored 12 points to lead Mount Holyoke. Sophomore Marley Berano (Lady Lake, Fla.) added nine points, and first-year Kendall Maurer (Orinda, Calif.) posted six points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench. First-year Taryn White (Alexandria, Va.) grabbed five more rebounds in a reserve role.

Mount Holyoke's next game is Wednesday Jan. 4 at home against Mitchell College, tipping off at 4pm.
