SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Grace Miguel scored her first goal of the season on a slap shot from the top of the circle, lifting Western New England University out of a 1-1 tie and into a 2-1 non-conference victory over the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team Thursday night on the MHC Turf.

The Golden Bears move to 7-5 with the win, while the host Lyons dropped to 3-10.

The game was knotted at 1-1 for 33 minutes of the game before Miguel's goal broke the tie in the 43rd minute, taking an insert pass from Carly-Anna Barba and firing through a crowd in front of the Mount Holyoke goal with the game-winner.

Taylor Klesyk scored her eighth goal of the season in the ninth minute to give the Golden Bears an early 1-0 lead. The goal came off the rebound after Mount Holyoke sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) stuffed three close-range WNE shots in succession, one each by Olyvia Whyte, Olivia Eastman, and Emily Campbell.

The Lyons evened the game in the final minute of the first quarter, as Phoebe Aaronson (Mountain View, Calif.) drove an entry ball into the circle and fellow senior captain Mollee Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) tipped it past WNE goalie Zoey Wexler and just inside the far left post. The goal was Malboeuf's team-high seventh this season, and the assist was Aaronson's team-high fourth of the year.

WNE held a 19-6 advantage in shots for the game, including a 10-2 difference in the first quarter, and an 8-7 edge in penalty corners.

Katzenberg finished the game with nine saves, while sophomore defender Sophia Guziewicz (Enfield, N.H.) recorded a defensive save early in the first quarter, her team-high fourth this season. Wexler posted no saves in the Golden Bear victory.

Mount Holyoke will host Wellesley in a NEWMAC game Saturday at noon on Senior Day.
