Field hockey pounces on Fighting Scots in 8-0 win at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team quintupled its season scoring total in one game on Tuesday afternoon, as the Lyons rolled to an 8-0 defeat of Gordon College.

The Lyons (1-3) outshot the host Fighting Scots (2-2) by an 18-5 margin and enjoyed a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners, while Gordon's defense allowed eight of 10 shots on goal to reach of the back of the cage.

Senior forward Kylie Brooks (Oceanside, Calif.) got the scoring going in the sixth minute and finished with a pair of goals, giving her a team-high total of three on the season.

First-year midfielder Anna Induni (Manchester, N.H.) scored twice to go with one assist, and senior captain Phoebe Aaronson (Mountain View, Calif.) contributed a goal and two assists. Senior captain Mollee Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) tallied a pair of assists.

Also scoring for Mount Holyoke were sophomore defender Sophia Guziewicz (Enfield, N.H.), sophomore defender Amanda Thibodeau (Lebanon, Maine), and junior forward Cecilia Field (Burlington, Vt.).

Mount Holyoke scored a goal in each of the three quarters to carry a 3-0 lead into the fourth period, and exploded for five additional scores in the final 15 minutes of action.

Senior Leah Manning (Durham, N.H.) made her first start in goal this season and came up with three saves to preserve the shutout for Mount Holyoke. Junior Andie Hardin (Pittsburgh, Pa.) saw no shots from the Scots as she played in goal for MHC over the final six minutes.

Sophea Zaskoda allowed three goals and made two saves for Gordon.

Mount Holyoke will open NEWMAC play on Saturday at 12pm at Babson.
