SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Kimberlie Asseng and Ciaran Cubbage scored a goal each to lift Clark to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Mount Holyoke College field hockey team in NEWMAC play on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons move to 3-6 and 0-3 in conference play while the Cougars improve to 5-5 and 1-2 in league action.

Mount Holyoke were granted eight penalty corners while Clark posted five. The Lyons held slight 15-14 shot advantage over the Cougars in the game.

After a scoreless first quarter where sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) made three saves, Asseng converted a missed shot by Abbe Cravinho into a goal 4:47 into the second period.

The Lyons were granted a corner taken by first-year Anna Induni (Manchester, N.H.) but were unable to record a shot. With 1:22 remaining on the clock in the second quarter, a shot from Ciaran Cubbage slipped past Katzenberg to bring the score to 2-0 Clark.

Mount Holyoke kept Clark out for the remainder of the game as Leah Manning (Durham, N.H.) posted back-to-back saves towards the end of the third quarter. The Lyons brought out a strong offense in the final quarter, but were unable to find the back of the net as Clark goalkeeper Loren Root notched nine saves in the final period.

Katzenberg finished the game with three saves while Manning totaled two. For Clark, Root made 10 saves.

Mount Holyoke returns on Tuesday, October 4 to host NEWMAC competitor Smith College at 7 pm.
