SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team fell 4-0 at Springfield College in a bid for its first NEWMAC win on Tuesday night, as the host Pride posted their fourth shutout of the season.

Springfield (6-8, 3-3 NEWMAC) earned a 27-6 advantage in shots, with Lyons sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) turning away 13 shots by the Pride. Penalty corners were sparse, with Springfield holding a 4-3 edge.

After a scoreless first quarter, Springfield scored in the 23rd minute on a penalty stroke by Emma McLaughlin. Springfield made it 2-0 in the waning moments of the first half as Camryn Morano and Grace Levansavich connected on a two-person game on the right wing, with Levansavich scoring with 36 seconds left on the clock.

The Pride added another goal less than a minute into the third quarter. After Maddy Dunne had her initial shot saved by Katzenberg, McLaughlin slapped in the rebound out of midair to give the hosts a 3-0 edge. Fifty seconds into the fourth quarter, Levansavich fed Audrey Bresciano on the doorstep to close out the scoring.

Senior Laurissa Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) attempted a team-high three shots for the Lyons. Sophomore Sophia Guziewicz (Enfield, N.H.) recorded her team-high third defensive save of the season.

Mount Holyoke will host Western New England University in a non-conference game Thursday at 7pm.
