Tennis Concludes Action at Seven Sisters Championship

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Action at the 2014 Seven Sisters Championship has concluded and the Mount Holyoke College tennis team finished the weekend with a 2-2 overall record. Much like day one, the Lyons split action on Sunday, falling to Wellesley (4-1) before defeating Smith (5-0). MHC moves to 10-9 on the season after the four matches this weekend.

The opener against the Blue saw junior Sarah Anischik pick up the lone point as she battled to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory over Caroline Dickensheets in singles action.

Anischik kept the momentum rolling in the afternoon, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Smith's Ruth Yi. She finished the weekend with a 3-1 record in singles play, including a victory on Saturday against Bryn Mawr.

In other singles action, senior Maya Sayarath posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Seema Samawai, while sophomore Margaux Holloschutz battled past Margaret Anne Smith by a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) margin.

In double action, the senior duo of AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik powered their way to a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 win against Smith's Kelli Cheung and Isabelle Eyman. Additionally, first year Alexa Colas and sophomore Michelle Cai posted a 6-1, 6-4 win against Pioneers' duo Jinan Martiuk and Alexandra Steck.

Wellesley won this year's championship, posting a record of 4-0. Vassar was second with a 3-1 mark, while MHC placed third at 2-2 overall. Bryn Mawr (1-3) and Smith (0-4) rounded out the field.

Additionally, Konkel and Malik were both named to the Seven Sisters All-Tournament Team.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it closes out its 2013-14 campaign at home against Roger Williams (10:30am) and Lesley (2pm).
