Tennis Defeats Roger Williams, 5-4 on Senior Day

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team concluded its 2013-14 campaign on Saturday, posting a 5-4 victory over Roger Williams University. The victory moves the Lyons to a final mark of 11-9, while the Hawks are now 13-7 on the season.

MHC also celebrated Senior Day in a pre-match ceremony, honoring co-captains AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik, along with classmate Maya Sayarath. The duo of Konkel and Malik got things going on a positive note in doubles play, winning by an 8-6 margin over RWU's Samantha Curran and Caroline McCarthy in the first flight.

The visiting Hawks got the best of the home team in the final two doubles matches, as Alexandra Brown and Lauren Schmidt defeated Sayarath and sophomore Margaux Holloschutz by an 8-6 margin in the second flight, while Emma Limburg and Adriana Maconochie recorded an 8-4 win over junior Sarah Anischik and first year Alexa Colas in the third.

Down by a 1-2 margin, Holloschutz pulled the Lyons even with a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) victory over RWU's Harley Kaiserman in third flight singles. Malik then made it a 3-2 edge for MHC after she posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over McCarthy in the fifth flight and the only match-up that didn't go to a super tiebreaker.

Anischik battled back for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) victory over Limburg at fours to make it a 4-2 advantage with three matches to go. Despite losses in the first and second flights, sophomore Michelle Cai gave the Lyons the victory with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win against Alexandra Bourn.
