Tennis Posts NEWMAC Victory at Emerson, 6-3

BOSTON, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team recorded victories in four of six singles and had a solid doubles effort to defeat Emerson College, 6-3 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday. With the win, the Lyons move to 3-2, while the Lions of Emerson are now 0-3 on the season.

Mount Holyoke started off the afternoon with a pair of doubles victories as senior Maya Sayarath and sophomore Margaux Holloschutz defeated Natalie Nicholas and Jana Winfield, 8-0 in the second flight. Junior Sarah Anischik and senior Kelsey Brower then posted an 8-0 win of their own in the third flight, downing Sophie Trilling and Tessa Velter.

Singles action saw senior Eman Malik continue her outstanding effort in the fifth flight as she improved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Trilling. Holloschutz was also victorious in the third flight as she posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicholas, while Anischik defeated Winfield, 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth flight.

Rounding out the solid efforts was Brower, who defeated Velter in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Wednesday in a 5pm NEWMAC-match at Wellesley.
