Tennis Suffers 6-3 Loss at Simmons

BOSTON, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College tennis team shouldered its first loss of the season, falling at Simmons College by a 6-3 margin. Both teams move to 1-1 on the young season.  The win for the Sharks marks the fourth straight in the series.

In doubles play, Margaret Teague paired up with Meghan Cokely to defeat AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik 8-2 in the number one spot, while Rachel Downey and Sofie Epshtein defeated Margaux Holloschutz and Maya Sayarath, 8-3 at the number two position. Sophomore Caroline Khoury and first year Theresa Reinhard completed the sweep with a 8-3 victory over Sarah Anischik and Kelsey Brower.

Up 3-0, the Sharks dominated the top three singles matches as Teague, Reinhard and Cokely each posted victories for Simmons. In the number four spot, Anischik defeated Epshtein after a three set battle, 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 and Malik and Brower each added wins for the Lyons.

The Sharks travel to their first away match of the season on Wednesday, Sep. 4 at Roger Williams. Game time is set for 4:00pm. The Lyons travel to Saint Joseph University on Thursday, Sep. 5 for a 4:30pm start.
