Tennis Concludes Action at ITA Regional Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Day two of the 2013 ITA New England Regional Tournament, hosted by Williams College, has concluded and three student-athletes from the Mount Holyoke College tennis team were in action. Each competed in consolation round action but fell in doubles and singles action.

After winning her opening match on Friday, senior captain Eman Malik faced Amhert's Zoe Pangalos, but fell by a 6-0, 6-0 margin. She had defeated Brandeis's Marissa Lazar, 6-2, 6-1 to open the competition.

Senior captain AnnElizabeth Konkel also played on Saturday, dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Middlebury's Alexandra Fields. She had fallen in the opening round to Tufts' Sophie Schonfeld by a 6-0, 6-1 margin. Rounding out the singles action in the consolation round was senior Maya Sayarath, who suffered a 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Middlebury's Margot Marchese. She had shouldered a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Brandeis's Roberta Bergstein on Friday.

In doubles action, Konkel and Malik suffered an 8-2 loss to Tufts duo Alexa Meltzer and Jacqueline Baum on Saturday. The duo lost in the opening round by an 8-1 margin to Williams' Maria Pylypic and Kathleen Elkins.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on October 5 in a 1pm NEWMAC match at Clark.
