Tennis Tops Saint Joseph, 9-0; Improves to 2-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team earned its second victory of the season on Thursday night, defeating the University of Saint Joseph by a 9-0 margin. It was an all-around effort for the Lyons, who saw all six different players earn multiple victories. The host BlueJays move to 0-2 on the year.

Senior captains AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik led the way at first doubles, posting an 8-4 victory over USJ's Emma Allen and Lisa Wawrzynowski. Konkel went on to defeat Allen in first singles by a 6-3, 6-0 margin, while Malik downed Delina Andrews in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) in the fifth flight.

Second doubles saw the pair of senior Maya Sayarath and sophomore Margaux Holloschutz claim and 8-3 win over Rebecca Mauri and Emely Chenard. Sayarath then defeated Mauri 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) in second singles and Holloschutz posted a 6-0, 6-0 score against Amanda Willhoft.

Rounding out the doubles action was the third flight team of junior Sarah Anischik and senior Kelsey Brower who won over Lindsay Tracy and Monica Palmeiri by an 8-2 margin. Anischik went on to defeat Wawrzynowski, 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth flight and Brower took care of Julie Ann Robinson in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at the sixth flight.

Mount Holyoke (2-1) is back in action on Saturday when it opens NEWMAC play against Wheaton at home at 1pm. USJ returns to the court on Wednesday, hosting Mitchell at 3:30pm.
