Tennis Posts 9-0 Win at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. – Visiting Mount Holyoke College rolled to an impressive 9-0 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Lyons improve to 5-4 overall and even its league mark at 3-3, while the Cougars have now dropped six straight matches to fall to 2-10.

Doubles action went relatively easy for the visitors as AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa.) and Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan) topped Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) and Sarah Sachs (North Branford, Conn.) 8-2 at No. 1, which was followed by Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Maya Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) dropping Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) by the same score at No. 2.

Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn.) and Kelsey Brower (Tuckerton, N.J.) then made it a clean sweep at No. 3 with an 8-0 win over Molly Igo (Clinton, Mass.) and Jen Comi (Northfield, Vt.).

Singles action was pretty much the same with the Lyons breezing through all six matches. The toughest came at No. 1 where Konkel posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sachs.

Holloschutz at No. 3 over Kravetz and Malik over Ellie Bakalchuk (Newton, Mass.) at No. 5 each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins, while Sayarath moved past Hughes in near similar fashion, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.

Anischik had little trouble with Snyder at No. 4, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win and Brower wrapped up the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Igo at No. 6.

Mount Holyoke will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Springfield, while the Cougars will look to return to the win column when they host Smith College on Tuesday as well.
