Tennis Posts 9-0 Win Over Colby-Sawyer

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – It was a dominant effort that pushed the Mount Holyoke College tennis team past Colby-Sawyer College by a 9-0 margin on Saturday morning at the MHC Field House. With the victory, the Lyons move to 7-7 on the season, while the Chargers slip to 10-5 overall.

MHC opened up strong in the doubles as the first flight team of senior captains AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik posted an 8-4 victory over Colby-Sawyer's Elizabeth Lincoln and Ashlyn Ramsay. Senior Maya Sayarath and sophomore Margaux Holloschutz then teamed up in the second flight for an 8-1 win against Chargers' duo Oxana Tkachenko and Ellen Graham.

Rounding out the action was MHC's third flight doubles team of junior Sarah Anischik and sophomore Michelle Cai, which defeated Allyse Mullen and Ziyoda Saidova by an 8-1 score.

In singles, the Lyons continued to perform strong as Konkel defeated Lincoln in the first flight by a 6-3, 6-2 margin. Sayarath then downed Ramsey in the second by a 6-1, 6-1 score.  The third flight was anchored by Holloschutz, who recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win against Tkachenko, while Anischik was the victor in the fourth flight with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Graham.

MHC's Malik recorded a straight set, 6-0, 6-0 win against Mullen at five, while Cai rounded out the action in the sixth flight with a 6-0, 6-1 over Saidova.

The Lyons return to action next weekend when they travel to Connecticut College on Saturday for a 10:30am match against the Camels. Colby-Sawyer travels to Wheaton on Saturday, April 12 for an 11am match.
