Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Win at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College tennis team recorded victories in all six singles and took two of three doubles matches to post an 8-1 victory over Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Lyons improve to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while the Pride slips to 6-4 and 3-4 in the NEWMAC.

The duo of Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) defeated Mount Holyoke's senior captains AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa.) and Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan) by a score of 9-7 for Springfield's only win of the day.

MHC senior Maya Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and sophomore Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) won their doubles match, 9-7 and first year Whitney Schott (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and junior Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn.) won 8-3 over Springfield.

The Lyons swept all six singles matches. Konkel battled to three sets to come away with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 win over London. Sayarath also went three sets for the win (4-6, 6-0, 10-4). Holloschutz earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory while Anischik won with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Malik (6-0, 6-1) and first year Mira Murali (Fall City, Wash.) (6-1, 6-0) tallied wins to complete the singles sweep.

Springfield will host NEWMAC rival Wellesley on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke hosts Babson in a conference match up on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
