Tennis Splits Action at Day 1 of Seven Sisters Championship

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team opened action at the 2014 Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday, hosted by Bryn Mawr College. The Lyons split action on the day, falling to Vassar College, 5-0, before defeating the host Owls by a 5-0 margin.

In the opener against the Brewers, the Lyons had a number of solid efforts, but could not get past a strong Vassar squad. One of the top performances on the day came in the doubles action as Lindsay Kantor and Lauren Stauffer defeated the senior captain duo of AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik by a 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

The afternoon session saw the Lyons dominate the Owls. In the singles, senior Maya Sayarath defeated Vivien Chen by a 6-3, 6-3 margin. Sophomore Margaux Holloschutz posted a 6-4, 6-0 over Jenny Vogel, while junior Sarah Anischik downed Melina Koukoutchos by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

In the doubles, Konkel and Malik defeated Catherine Austin and Eliza Perocchi, 6-0, 6-2, while first years Alexa Colas and Mira Murali posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kendall Baller and Rachael Abraham.

The Lyons conclude action at this year's championships on Sunday. MHC will face Wellesley at 10:30am and close out the weekend against Smith at 1:30pm.
