Tennis Concludes Day 1 at ITA New England Regionals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Day one of the 2013 ITA New England Regional Tournament is in the books and Mount Holyoke College saw three student-athletes with solid efforts to open the day. All three will play in consolation round action on Saturday, including senior captain Eman Malik, who won her opening match in the feed in round to advance to the consolation singles.

Malik posted a score of 6-2, 6-1 over Brandeis's Marissa Lazar. She will now face Amhert's Zoe Pangalos on Saturday. In other singles action, senior captain AnnElizabeth Konkel fell in the opening round to Tufts' Sophie Schonfeld by a 6-0, 6-1 margin, while classmate Maya Sayarath shouldered a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Brandeis's Roberta Bergstein.

Konkel will now face Middlebury's Alexandra Fields, while Sayarath will take on Margot Marchese, also from Middlebury in Saturday's consolation singles round.

In doubles action, Konkel and Malik fell in the opening round by an 8-1 margin to Williams' Maria Pylypic and Kathleen Elkins. On Saturday, the pair will square off against Alexa Meltzer and Jacqueline Baum from Tufts in consolation doubles.
