THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke faces off against non-conference foe Elms College this evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Mount Holyoke Soccer Field. MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (1-11-1, 1-5-1 NEWMAC) claimed its first victory of the season on October 5, when it held on for a 2-1 triumph over the Coast Guard Academy. After a scoreless first half, the Lyons grabbed a 1-0 edge in the 50th minute, when midfielder Veronica Farmer set up forward Jacquelyn Archibald's first tally of the year. Forward Margaret Hanmer then found the back of the net for what proved to be the winner at the 69:21 mark. It was her team leading second tally of the fall. Forward Mallory Phaneuf was credited with the assist on the play. Farmer has posted a squad high two assists for Mount Holyoke. Meanwhile, Hanmer and Archibald have collected two goals apiece. On the defensive end, Elaine Harvey has  amassed 123 saves in 1,130 minutes played. The senior has posted a goals against average of 3.74 and a save percentage of .724.

Opponent Logo THE BLAZERS: Elms (4-9-0, 3-2-0 NECC) has been hot of late, winning two straight matches over the past week. After blanking Southern Vermont College 4-0 last Wednesday, the Blazers handed Becker College a 5-1 setback on Saturday. They have also defeated Mount Ida College (1-0) and Newbury College (4-0) this season. Forward Jennifer Killion has recorded 17 points on seven goals and three assists to lead the way for Elms. The Blazers have also received a boost from Erica Griffo, Christina Goodchild and Allyson Witaszek, who have collected two goals apiece. Griffo's four helpers are good for tops on the squad. As a team, they have found the back of the net 18 times. Their featured goalkeeper has been Kelly Callahan. In 982 minutes played, she has accumulated 100 saves. The junior owns a goals against average of 1.47 and a save percentage of .862.    

NEXT UP: Both squads will resume their conference slates on Saturday. Mount Holyoke will round out the home portion of its schedule versus New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Clark University at 1:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Elms will entertain New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent Bay Path College at 7:00 p.m.
