THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (0-4-1, 0-0-1 NEWMAC) has struggled out of the gate, falling in four of its first five contests. With goalkeeper Elaine Harvey leading the way, the Lyons finished in a 1-1 deadlock with Smith College in their NEWMAC opener last Saturday. Harvey turned in a terrific effort, stopping 12 shots. Two of those came in overtime. Mount Holyoke jumped out to a 1-0 edge at the 40:44 mark of the contest, when forward Margaret Hanmer scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from midfielder Veronica Farmer. Hanmer and Farmer have accounted for 11 and nine shots, respectively, thus far this season. Meanwhile, Harvey has amassed 49 saves in 419 minutes played. Emily Shank has also seen time between the pipes for the Lyons. In 51 minutes played, she has stopped six shots. Last season, Mount Holyoke posted four wins and qualified for the NEWMAC Tournament for the second straight time.
THE BLUE: Wellesley (3-3-1, 0-0-1 NEWMAC) has picked up wins over RPI (3-1), Endicott College (2-1) and the University of Massachusetts Boston (2-1 2OT) thus far this season. Forward Amy Chao has racked up six goals to lead the way for the Blue. The team has also received a boost from midfielder Lena Cardoso, who has posted one goal and one assist. Sarah Gray has piled up 43 saves while surrendering 10 goals in 674 minutes played between the pipes for Wellesley.
