Wheaton Shuts Down Soccer, 6-0

NORTON, Mass. (Oct. 2, 2010) – Junior midfielder Emily Vincunas racked up two goals and two assists to lead the Wheaton College women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at Mirrione Stadium. Wheaton, which received votes in the latest NSCAA Division III National Poll, has now picked up wins in six of its last seven matches.

In addition to Vincunas, the hosts also received a boost from first year forward Kristina Braga, who found the back of the net twice. Sophomore forward Casey Muse scored once and assisted on another. Meanwhile, junior midfielder Jessica Stuart added one goal.

Wheaton (10-1-1, 2-1-0 NEWMAC) scored four times before the break and tacked on two more tallies in the second half. Vincunas recorded what proved to be the winner at the 12:25 mark. Her team finished with advantages in both shots (32-7) and corner kicks (6-0).

First year goalkeeper Kerry Condon got the start between the pipes for the hosts. She made two saves in the first half before giving way to junior Erin Cawley, who turned away one shot after the intermission. Condon was credited with the win.

Senior Elaine Harvey piled up 12 saves in 85 minutes played for Mount Holyoke. On the offensive end, first year Brittany McDonald had two shots for the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke (0-7-1, 0-2-1 NEWMAC) will kick off a three match homestand on Tuesday, when it hosts the Coast Guard Academy. The NEWMAC tilt is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
