THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (1-8-1, 1-3-1 NEWMAC) claimed its first victory of the season last Tuesday, when it held on for a 2-1 triumph over the Coast Guard Academy. After a scoreless first half, the Lyons grabbed a 1-0 edge in the 50th minute, when midfielder Veronica Farmer set up forward Jacquelyn Archibald's first tally of the year. Forward Margaret Hanmer then found the back of the net for what proved to be the winner at the 69:21 mark. It was her team leading second tally of the fall. Forward Mallory Phaneuf was credited with the assist on the play. Farmer has posted a squad high two assists for Mount Holyoke. Hanmer and Archibald have amassed 14 shots apiece, while Farmer has totaled 13. On the defensive end, Elaine Harvey has amassed 99 saves in 860 minutes played. The senior has posted a goals against average of 3.66 and a save percentage of .739.
THE CAMELS: Connecticut College (3-3-2, 0-3-2 NESCAC) has picked up victories over Mitchell College (1-0 OT), the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (2-0) and Rhode Island College (3-1) thus far this season. The Camels have been paced by forward Jess Kharasch, defender Kate Wegener and midfielder Jill Cote, who have tallied two goals apiece. Forward Ali McKeigue and defender Lowell Abbott have each scored once, while midfielder Celia Alvarez has dished out two assists. Kirsten Manville has posted a goals against average of 1.21 in 670 minutes played.
NEXT UP: Both squads are slated to resume their league schedules on Saturday. Mount Holyoke will travel to MIT for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Connecticut College will host New England Small Conference Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Middlebury College at 11:00 a.m.
