SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 9, 2010) – Senior forward Ellen McCurdy found the back of the net for the match winning goal, as the Babson College women's soccer team edged Mount Holyoke College 1-0 in overtime this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Soccer Field. It was the Beavers fifth consecutive win over their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) counterparts.

McCurdy's golden goal came off of a corner kick set with just 40 seconds remaining in the first overtime. Sophomore midfielder Kelly Hanly got the play started with kick from the corner that found a streaking Patty Pytlik in the middle of the box. Without hesitation, Pytlik one touched the ball out of the air to McCurdy, who gathered, turned and fired a shot past Mount Holyoke senior Elaine Harvey from the doorstep. It was her first tally of the season.

Babson finished with overwhelming advantages in both shots (31-4) and corners (15-0). The Beavers applied constant pressure to Harvey, who came up with nine saves in a losing effort. At the other end, junior Lisa Wojnar needed to make just one save en route to her seventh shutout of the year.

Senior forward Jacquelyn Archibald, junior forward Margaret Hanmer, sophomore defender Kiana Lussier and first year defender Brittany McDonald each had one shot for the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke (1-8-1, 1-3-1 NEWMAC) will put the finishing touches on its three match homestand on Tuesday, when it entertains Connecticut College at 4:30 p.m. Babson (9-3-1 4-0-1 NEWMAC) will be off until next Saturday, when it hosts the Coast Guard Academy for a NEWMAC tilt beginning at 11:30 a.m.
