SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2010) – Midfielders Katie McLean and Jackie Trevisani recorded two goals apiece to lead the Union College women's soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College this evening at College Park.
Both sides went scoreless over the first 18 minutes before Union exploded for four goals over a span of 5:07 to break things wide open.
Sophomore midfielder Michaela Katz got things going at the 18:52 mark, when she knocked in a cross from first year forward Melissa Mansfield. The Dutchwomen extended the lead to 2-0 on a penalty kick by sophomore forward Jennifer Mansfield. McLean then netted back-to-back goals to push the cushion to 4-0.
Trevisani tacked on two more tallies before the intermission to put things out of reach.
The final goal of the night came off the foot of first year defender Meghan Cole in the 63rd minute.
Union (7-2-0, 1-1-0) finished with a 23-5 advantage in the shot column. The Dutchwomen featured three goalkeepers, who combined for two saves. It was their fifth shutout of the year. Senior Elaine Harvey made four saves for Mount Holyoke.
Sophomore midfielder Veronica Farmer posted a pair of shots for the Lyons.
Mount Holyoke (0-6-1, 0-1-1 NEWMAC) will resume its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) slate at Wheaton College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
