  • 2010-11 Soccer Year in Review

    Under the direction of Kanae Haneishi, the Mount Holyoke soccer team posted an overall record of 1-14-1 in 2010. The Lyons were paced by senior Jacquelyn Archibald, who was selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team after recording two goals and two assists.
  • Seniors Honored at Scholar Athlete Reception

    Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration last Thursday, 24 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 12 teams were honored as part of the College's third annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

    The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

    Hundreds of Mount Holyoke athletes gathered on Skinner Green this afternoon for a flash mob to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day. Members of both varsity and club sports participated in the event, which was designed to showcase the unity that exists among athletes across campus.
  • Soccer Raises Thousands for Japan Through Charity Match

    The Mount Holyoke soccer program has raised close to $3,000 for the victims of the recent earthquake in Japan. Head Coach Kanae Haneishi would like to thank all who have made donations over the past two weeks. The Lyons took part in a charity match with a group of travelling Japanese players on Saturday. Donations are still being accepted.
  • Soccer to Play Game for Earthquake Relief

    Mount Holyoke's soccer team is pitching—or kicking—in to help victims of last week’s devastating earthquake and tsunami. The squad will play a charity match with a Japanese travel team at the Turf Field on Saturday, March 26 at 1:00 p.m. The team will be selling $5 “We Pray For Japan” bracelets at the game, with all contributions going to the Japanese Red Cross.
  • Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value College

    Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.
  • Harvey Selected to Participate in NEWISA Senior Bowl

    Goalkeeper Elaine Harvey has been selected to represent Mount Holyoke College at the 2010 NEWISA Senior Bowl. The contest is slated to take place tomorrow on the campus of Merrimack College at 2:30 p.m. It will feature seniors from all three NCAA divisions.
  • NEWMAC Announces Fall Academic All-Conference Squads

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2010 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams. Nineteen Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of cross country, field hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball.

  • Soccer Closes Out 2010 Campaign With 4-0 Loss at Springfield

    Senior goalkeeper Elaine Harvey racked up a season best 18 saves in Mount Holyoke's 4-0 loss at Springfield College this evening. It was the Lyons' final outing of the 2010 campaign. They closed out the year with an overall record of 1-14-1 and a NEWMAC mark of 1-7-1. Senior forward Jacquelyn Archibald accounted for both of her team's shots.

    Mount Holyoke rounds out its home slate with a NEWMAC contest against Clark University Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) at the Soccer Field. In 14 previous meetings between the programs, the Cougars own an 10-3 advantage. The teams have finished in a deadlock once. Last fall, the Lyons downed Clark for the second time in a row, winning by a score of 1-0. They prevailed 3-1 in 2008.
  • Clark Comes Up With Dramatic 2-1 Overtime Victory Over Soccer

    The Mount Holyoke soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime to Clark University this afternoon in NEWMAC action at the Soccer Field. Senior forward Jacinta Edebeli scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from classmate Jacquelyn Archibald. Prior to the contest, a senior day celebration took place to honor Edebeli, Archibald, Kim Johnson, Colleen Regal, Elaine Harvey and Georgia Markell.

    Junior midfielder Mary Cooke notched her first goal of the year off an assist from senior forward Jacquelyn Archibald in Mount Holyoke's 3-1 loss to Elms College this evening at the Soccer Field. First year goalkeeper Emily Shank came up with six saves for the Lyons in her first collegiate start.

    WPI scored three goals in a span of less than seven minutes in the first half on its way to a 4-0 victory over Mount Holyoke this evening at Alumni Field. The Lyons were paced by sophomore midfielder Mallory Phaneuf and junior forward Margaret Hanmer, who collected three and two shots, respectively.

    The Mount Holyoke soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to MIT in NEWMAC action at Roberts Field today. Senior goalkeeper Elaine Harvey made 12 saves for the Lyons, while The Lyons’ lone shot on goal came from Margaret Hanmer, Mary Cooke, Veronica Farmer, Katie Dupuis and Dara Ereshena each had shots.
  • Connecticut College Nips Soccer, 2-1

    Connecticut College edged Mount Holyoke 2-1 this afternoon in non-conference action at the Soccer Field. The Lyons goal came from senior Jacquelyn Archibald in the 21st minute. Junior midfielder Mary Cooke was credited with the assist on the play after she broke past several defenders and found Archibald with a short crossing pass in the box.

    The Mount Holyoke soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 setback to NEWMAC for Babson College this afternoon at the Soccer Field. Senior forward Ellen McCurdy found the back of the net for the match winning goal with just 40 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. Senior goalkeeper Elaine Harvey collected nine saves for the Lyons.

    Mount Holyoke kicks off a three match homestand versus the Coast Guard Academy Tuesday afternoon (4:30 p.m.) at the Soccer Field. In 10 previous meetings between the NEWMAC foes, each side has won five times. The Lyons have racked up four straight wins over the Bears, including a 9-2 triumph last fall. Their nine goals in the contest were their most since the 1984 season, when they blanked Colby-Sawyer College 11-0.

    The Mount Holyoke soccer team fell 6-0 at Wheaton College this afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Elaine Harvey piled up 12 saves in 85 minutes played for the Lyons. On the offensive end, first year Brittany McDonald had two shots.

Sophomore midfielder Veronica Farmer posted a pair of shots to lead the way for the Lyons. Jacquelyn Archibald, Jacinta Edebeli and Katie Dupuis also recorded shots in the contest.

    Senior goalkeeper Elaine Harvey turned in a brilliant effort between the pipes in Mount Holyoke's 1-1 tie with Smith. Margaret Hanmer scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Veronica Farmer. It was the NEWMAC opener for both squads and the Lyons first home match of the 2010 campaign.
