Swimming & Diving Downs Smith on Senior Day!

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Feb. 2, 2013) - Seniors Lindsey Kanno, Nora Cunningham and Caitlin Lewis all recorded victories to lead the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team past Smith College, 160-135 on Senior Day at the MHC Natatorium. With the win, the Lyons finish their dual meet season with a 7-3 record, while the Pioneers cap their season with a 2-3 mark.

Cunningham (Bronx, N.Y./Stuyvesant) swam on to two individual victories, claiming the 50-freestyle in a time of 25.74 and the 100-free with a mark of 57.47.

Kanno (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) powered her way to victory in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:01.20, while Lewis (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) was victorious in the 100-backstroke with a mark of 1:07.70.

Both Cunningham and Lewis, along with first year Bethany Aban (Poulsbo, Wash./North Kitsap) and sophomore Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) combined to win the 200-medley relay in a time of 1:55.85.

Lazarovich also had an outstanding effort in the 100-breaststroke, winning with a time of 1:10.27. She also claimed victory in the 200-breast, eclipsing her own school record time (2:29.40) with a new mark of 2:29.26.

Rounding out the solid efforts for the Lyons was first year Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravencroft School), who won the 500-free with a new school record time of 5:09.80, which eclipsed her own record of 5:11.91. Additionally, she shattered her own school record in the 1000-free, posting a time of 10:35.08 - nearly seven seconds better than her previous mark (10:43.36).

Both MHC and Smith are now idle until February 15th when they compete at the NEWMAC Championships, hosted by MIT.
