Swimming & Diving Powers Past Westfield State, 165-121

WESTFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 7, 2012) - First year Cathleen Pruden inked her name onto another school record on Wednesday and the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team opened its dual meet schedule with a 165-121 victory over Westfield State. Pruden, who eclipsed two records in last week's opener, posted a new mark in the 1000-freestyle against the Owls.

Pruden posted a time of 10:43.37 to capture victory in the 1000-free, which was nearly three seconds faster than the previous school record. That mark of 10:46.01 was set by Katie Herrold '00 during the 1997 season.

In addition to the 1000-free, Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravencroft School) claimed victory in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:10.67.

Also having a solid effort at the meet was junior Lauren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica/Baylor School (Tenn.), who won the 50-freestyle with a time of 26.54. She also helped the 200-medley relay team to victory as the anchor with a mark of 1:59.35. Other members of the foursome included first year Bethany Aban (Poulsbo, Wash./North Kitsap), sophomore Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and first year Erica Carvell (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley).

Aban was a winner in the 100-backstroke with a mark of 1:04.88, while Lazarovich posted individual wins in the 50-breaststroke (32.95) and the 100-freestyle (59.67). Carvell was also a winner with a victory in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:06.00.

First year Maggie Webb (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) was also victorious in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:05.57 and in the 500-freestyle with a mark of 5:37.93.

Mount Holyoke, which posted its fourth straight dual meet victory over the Owls, returns to the pool on Friday when it opens its home schedule at the MHC Natatorium. The Lyons host Assumption at 5pm.
