Swimming & Diving Splits Tri-Meet Action

NORTON, Mass. (Jan. 11, 2013) - The Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team returned to action on Friday afternoon in a tri-meet against Clark University and host Wheaton College. The Lyons posted a 168-69 victory over the Cougars, but fell by a narrow 123-113 margin against Wheaton.

Leading the way on the day was first year Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravencroft School), who won three events on the day. Pruden dominated in the freestyle events, capturing the 1,000-free with a time of 10:47.03 and the 500-free with a mark of 5:20.17. She also won the 200-free in a time of 1:58.19.

Fellow first year Bethany Aban (Poulsbo, Wash. / North Kitsap) also had a solid effort on the day, winning the 100-butterfly with a mark of 1:02.14. She was third in the 100-backstroke in a time of 1:07.70 and also helped the 200-medley relay team to second with a time of 1:57.22.

Other members of the relay team included sophomore Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington), senior captain Nora Cunningham (Bronx, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) and first year Erica Carvell (Aurora, Ill. / Metea Valley).

Lazarovich was also an individual winner in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:10.29 and the 200-individual medley in a mark of 2:19.39, while Cunningham was victorious in the 50-free with a time of 26.33.

In the diving events, sophomore Catrina Bellucci-DiLizia (Springfield, Mass. / Home schooled) finished third off both boards, scoring 160.90 points in the 3-meter event and 158.30 points in the 1-meter.

The Lyons return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Simmons at the MHC Natatorium. The meet gets underway at 1pm.
