Swimming & Diving Heads to NEWMAC Championships

The 2013 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming & Diving championship kicks off this Thursday at MIT's Zesiger Center Natatorium and runs through Sunday evening. The host Engineers come in as the defending men's and women's champions but there are a number of strong squads in the conference and the potential is high for some outstanding performances.

Fans who are unable to attend this year's meet can follow all the action through a number of ways as live stats for both the swimming and diving events will be available, as well as video during the finals each evening.

Mount Holyoke enters this year's NEWMAC Championship with a number of outstanding young competitors who helped the Lyons to a 7-3 dual meet record in 2012-13. Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.) has continued to shine in her rookie season, currently she has 30 first-place finishes on the season and has eclipsed seven school records (100 IM, 200 Free, 1000 Free, 500 Free, 400 IM, 200 IM, 200 Fly) as well as set two Seven Sisters Championship meet records.

Additionally, Pruden has been a three-time NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week, a Seven Sisters All-Tournament selection and has recorded two NCAA 'B' Cuts in the 400 IM. Sophomore Maya Lazarovich (South Burlington, Vt.) has also had an outstanding season, breaking her own school record in the 200 breaststroke, while also setting a Seven Sisters record in the event. She was also named to the Seven Sisters All-Tournament Team.

Action at this year's meet begins on Friday at 10am. Finals begin each night at 6pm. For more information, log on to the NEWMAC Championship site at newmacsports.com.
