Squash Closes Regular Season at Nationally-Ranked Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall

Lancaster, Pa. - February 16, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team wrapped up the 2019-20 regular season on Sunday as the Lyons took on nationally-ranked Dickinson in Carlisle, Pa. in the morning before heading over to another nationally-ranked opponent, Franklin & Marshall, in Lancaster, Pa. in the afternoon. 

Heading into the day, Dickinson was No. 23 in the latest College Squash Association (CSA) National Rankings, while the Diplomats were No. 18. The Lyons dropped both matches by the score of 8-1.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will prepare for CSA Team National Championships, which will be hosted at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. beginning on Friday, February 21.

No. 23 Dickinson 8, Mount Holyoke College 1 -- Match One

The Mount Holyoke College squash team fell to host Dickinson College, 8-1, in the Dickinson Squash Center on Sunday morning. With the loss, the Lyons, which won both their matches on Saturday, fall to 4-13 overall.

Standout sophomore Mihiliya Methsarani (Panadura, Sri Lanka) took care of business at No. 1, defeating Lindsay Kuracina 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, but Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) and Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe) dropped their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 with Madungwe playing the closer of the two matches but falling 11-3, 11-6, 11-7.

After Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) fell to Jocelyn Feliciano at No. 4 11-2, 11-5, 11-1, Genesis Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.) played four games with Doxey Loupassi but fell 11-0, 10-12, 11-5, 11-8. Junior Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass.) lost at No. 6, followed by a setback at No. 7 for Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.)

Wrapping up, Janiqua Davis (New Haven, Conn.) fell 11-6, 11-2, 11-2 at No. 8, Jane Xu (Hangzhou, China) fell at No. 9 11-7, 11-2, 11-2 and Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) dropped the exhibition 11-2, 11-4, 14-12.

No. 18 Franklin & Marshall 8, Mount Holyoke College 1 -- Match Two

The Lyons looked to rebound from a setback at Dickinson in the morning, heading to Franklin & Marshall for an afternoon match on Sunday. Methsarani picked up her second win of the day and fourth of the weekend as the sophomore prevailed over Audrey Berling 11-4, 11-6, 11-8. 

Mbah played hard at but fell 11-2, 11-2, 11-6 at No. 2, while Cabrera lost 11-3, 11-3, 11-0 at No. 3. Genesis Lara Granados fell at No. 4, 11-3, 11-2, 11-5, before Robson lost 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 at No. 5. The last four spots saw Nicole Lara Granados fall at No. 6, 11-0, 11-1, 11-5, Davis drop an 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 decision at No. 7, Xu fall 11-1, 11-0, 11-0 at No. 8 and a loss for Montgomery at No. 9, 11-4, 11-1, 11-4.
