No. 22 Squash Drops Decision to No. 2 Trinity College

South Hadley, Mass. - November 23, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team welcomed the No. 2-ranked Trinity Bantams to the MHC Squash Courts on Saturday afternoon and the Bantams prevailed, 9-0, in their first win of the season. 

With the loss, the Lyons fell to 1-2 following their season-opening win versus St. Lawrence on Friday evening. Coming into the season, Trinity was ranked No. 2 in the College Squash Association (CSA) National Rankings.

Playing three rounds of games on three courts, up first for the Lyons was Mihiliya Methsarani (Panadura, Sri Lanka) at the No. 1 position, Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) at No. 5 and Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass.) at No. 8. Methsarani fell to Sarahi Lopez (Zapopan, Mexico), Cabrera dropped her match to Ashita Bhengra (Chennai, India) and Robson suffered a defeat to Habiba Dawood (Cairo, Egyp).

Next was Nadindhi Udangawa (Depanama, Sri Lanka) at No. 2, Meli Marquez (New Haven, Conn.) at No. 6 and Janiqua Davis (New Haven, Conn.) at No. 9. Udangawa lost to Akanksha Salunkhe (Vasco Da Gama, India) in straight sets, while Marquez fell to Nanna Carleke (Karlskrona, Sweden) 3-0. Wrapping up, Davis dropped a 3-0 decision to Lily Taylor-French (Fano, Italy).

Lastly, Anna Braman (Wellesley, Mass.) played at No. 7, Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe) was at No. 4 and Maeve Watts-Roy (Louisville, Ky.) wrapped up at No. 3. Braman lost to Amina Taher (Alexandria, Egypt), before Madungwe dropped a 3-0 decision to Nadiia Usenko (Kiev, Ukraine) and Watts-Roy fell to Lakeesha Rarere (Hastings, New Zealand) in straight sets.

Mount Holyoke College will return to action on Tuesday, January 7 and will travel to Yale for a 2 p.m. match.
