No. 13 Williams Blanks No. 22 Squash, 9-0

Williamstown, Mass. - January 17, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team fell to host Williams College, 9-0, in the Simon Squash Center on Friday evening.

At No. 1, standout sophomore Mihiliya Methsarani (Panadura, Sri Lanka) put up quite the fight against Julia Ward (Wilmington, Del.) but she eventually fell in five sets by the scores of 7-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7. At No. 2, Haley Jefferson (Toronto, Canada) defeated Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) 11-2, 11-1, 11-1, while at No. 3, Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) fell to Quan Ng (Vancouver, B.C.) 11-3, 11-1, 11-1.

In the middle third, Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass.) fell to Anna Nicholson (Groton, Mass.) by the set scores of 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 at No. 4, while at No. 5, Abby LeBlanc (West Hartford, Conn.) bested Genesis Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.) 11-1, 11-6, 11-7. Meli Marquez (New Haven, Conn.) put up a good battle at No. 6, but eventually fell to Mira Kamat (Mumbai, India) 11-2, 12-10, 11-3.

Isabel Kelly (Weston, Mass.) defeated Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.) 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 at No. 7, while at No. 8, Anna Braman (Wellesley, Mass.) fell to Nikita Srivastava (Redwood City, Calif.) 11-1, 11-0, 11-2 and at No. 9, Adrienne Conza (Canton, Mass.) defeated Jing Xu (Hangzhou, China) 11-0, 11-1, 11-1.

With the loss, the Lyons, which were ranked No. 22 in the latest College Squash Association (CSA) National Rankings, drops to 1-7 overall, while the Ephs, which were ranked No. 13 in last week's poll, improve to 8-3 on the year.

Mount Holyoke College will now gear up for the Pioneer Valley Invitational, which will be hosted between Mount Holyoke College and Amherst College on January 25 and January 26. The Lyons will begin with a 10 a.m. match versus Wesleyan on Saturday, January 25.
