No. 6 Georgetown Upends No. 3 Squash at CSA Team National Championships

New Haven, Conn. - February 21, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team fell to Georgetown University, 8-1, in the College Squash Association (CSA) Team National Championships, hosted at Yale University on Friday evening.

The Lyons, which were No. 3 in the Epps Cup Division, was led by a victory at the No. 1 spot from standout sophomore Mihiliya Methsarani (Panadura, Sri Lanka), who defeated Nina Thomas 11-5, 11-2, 11-2. 

Georgetown, which was No. 6 in the bracket, would then win the next eight decisions to claim victory. At No. 2, Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) was defeated by Maddy Forbess 11-1, 4-11, 17-15, 11-8, while at No. 3, Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe) fell to Nicole Carino, 11-9, 11-4, 11-7. 

At No. 4, Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) dropped a three-game decision to Julia Sachman, while Genesis Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.) fell at No. 5 to Elle Santry. Junior Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass.) fell to Sarah Conner in three games at No. 6, while at No. 7, Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.) was able to take a set off of Grace Feagin, but eventually fell in four games.

Wrapping up, Janiqua Davis (New Haven, Conn.) lost to Maggie Brown at No. 8, while Anna Braman (Wellesley, Mass.) came back to the lineup and fell in three games to Kaleigh O'Connor at No. 9.

The Lyons now will enter the consolation bracket and will take on Boston College on Saturday, February 22 at 6:30 p.m.
