No. 24 Colby Downs No. 22 Squash, 7-2

Waterville, Maine - January 11, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team played its final of three games in two days on Saturday afternoon, as the Lyons took on Colby College and fell 7-2 to the Mules at the Dunaway Courts.

With the loss, the Lyons, which were ranked No. 22 in the latest College Squash Association (CSA) national rankings, drops to 1-5 overall, while Colby, which was No. 24 in the latest poll, improves to 2-3 on the year.

At the No. 1 spot, standout sophomore Mihiliya Methsarani (Panadura, Sri Lanka) picked up a hard-fought 11-9, 11-7, 11-4 win over Mariam Mansoor (Richmond Hill, Ontario), before Sydney Ku (Redmond, Wash.) defeated Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) by the set scores of 11-2, 11-5, 11-3. Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) won at No. 3 over Sabrina Teope (Bronx, N.Y.), producing set scores of 11-9, 11-6, 11-7, while at No. 4, Stephanie Keane (Buffalo, N.Y.) bested Genesis Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.) by the set scores of 14-12, 12-10, 11-6.

At No. 5, Meli Marquez (New Haven, Conn.) fell to Madeline Latimore (Newton, Mass.) 11-9, 11-3, 11-7, before Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y.) dropped a 11-9, 11-5, 11-7 decision to D'Arcy Carlson (Boring, Md.). Wrapping up the match, Janiqua Davis (New Haven, Conn.) fell to Greta Drefke (Betehesda, Md.) 11-3, 11-4, 11-3, Anna Braman (Wellesley, Mass.) fell to Tiana Issa (Boston, Mass.) 11-5, 11-3, 11-9 and Sabrina Rabins (Weston, Mass.) beat Jing Xu (Hangzhou, China) 11-1, 11-5, 11-7.

Mount Holyoke College will now gear up for a match at Williams College on Friday, January 17. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
