• 2010-11 Basketball Year in Review

    Following the lead of seventh year head coach Michelle Scecina, the Mount Holyoke basketball team finished the 2010-11 season with an overall record or 7-17 and a league mark of 5-13. The Lyons were paced by guard Angelica Pascual, who was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team after pouring in a team best 13.5 points per game.

    Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration last Thursday, 24 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 12 teams were honored as part of the College's third annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

    The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

    Mount Holyoke juniors Tricia Chase and Christine Chancy recently attended the NCAA Winning Careers in Athletics Forum at the Hall of Champions in Indianapolis, Indiana. The program was held from April 5-6 in conjunction with the Women’s Division I Basketball Championship.

    Hundreds of Mount Holyoke athletes gathered on Skinner Green this afternoon for a flash mob to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day. Members of both varsity and club sports participated in the event, which was designed to showcase the unity that exists among athletes across campus.
  • NEWMAC Announces Winter Academic All-Conference Squads

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2010-11 Winter Academic All-Conference Teams. Nine Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of basketball and swimming and diving.
  • Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value College

    Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.
  • Pascual Placed on NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team

    Sophomore guard Angelica Pascual has been named to the NEWMAC Women’s Basketball All-Conference Second Team after her outstanding play during the 2010-11 season. Pascual enjoyed a breakout season on the offensive end of the floor for the Lyons. In addition to piling up 13.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, she also added 38 assists and 31 steals.
  • Basketball Dropped By #5 Babson in Season Finale

    Eleven players scored points for Mount Holyoke in their 2010-11 finale against fifth ranked Babson this afternoon. Sophomore guard Angelica Pascual paced the Lyons with 20 points. Prior to the contest a senior day celebration took place to honor Emilie Methot, Jacquie MacDonald and Joanna McDonough for their contributions to the program over the past four years. Mount Holyoke also took part in the Pink Zone initiative.

The Lyons will be participating in the WBCA's Pink Zone initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer. Senior Day activities will also take place before the contest.

    Mount Holyoke has partnered with the WBCA to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer through the Pink Zone initiative. Pink Zone is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Lyons will be participating in the initiative on Saturday during their game against Babson.

Guards Angelica Pascual and Christine Chancy accounted for 24 points, scoring 14 and 10, respectively. The Lyons also received solid production from senior guard Emilie Methot, who netted six points.

The forward netted the game winning basket in Mount Holyoke's thrilling 48-46 overtime triumph over Wellesley on Saturday. Earlier in the week, she recorded a career best 18 points in a 67-50 win over Johnson and Wales.
