Mount Holyoke College Opens 2019-20 Athletic Season This Weekend

South Hadley, Mass. - August 30, 2019 - Mount Holyoke College is set to begin the 2019-20 season this upcoming weekend, with four fall sports in action beginning on Saturday, August 31.

Of the four fall sports, Field Hockey will be the only team that plays at home, as the Lyons are set to square off with Roger Williams at 1 p.m. on the MHC Turf and Track Complex. The cross country team will head to Keene, N.H., and will compete in the Early Bird Invitational, which will begin at 10 a.m. The soccer team will follow suit, as it is set to compete against Simmons in Boston, Mass. at 11 a.m., and the volleyball team will travel to nearby Worcester, Mass. for a tri-match with Becker College and Bridgewater State.

The field hockey program returns three of its top five scorers from last season including Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.), who posted 15 points on six goals and three assists in 2018. Supporting Robb will be Kylie Brooks (Oceanside, Calif.) and Kass Lawrence (Holyoke, Mass.), who registered nine points apiece last season. The cross country team will be led by the force of Hannah Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) and Madeline Reiders (Wellesley, Mass.), who finished first and second place, respectively, in the 10,000 meter race at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Track and Field Championships last April.

Leading the soccer team into its contest with Simmons will be Hannah Finn-Erb (Northampton, Mass.), who produced nine points on three goals and three assists in 2018. Additionally, McKenna Lamb (Redlands, Calif.) recorded four points on a pair of markers. Lastly, the volleyball team returns senior middle hitter Sasha Simine (Kitchener, Ont.), who posted 149 kills in 2018, hitting at a .299 clip. Sarah Bishop (Rutland, Mass.), who added 117 kills in her first year with the Lyons will look to continue her success, while Brayden Walden (McKinney, Texas) will direct the offense, coming off a season where she handed out 526 assists.
