Track & Field Competes at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Strong performances powered the Mount Holyoke College track & field team to a solid effort at the 2015 Wesleyan Invitational. The Lyons saw a number of outstanding showings at the non-scoring event, including a victory by sophomore Becca Rogers in the 800-meter run.

Rogers cross the line with a time of 2:24.23, which was also a New England Division III qualifying time. Also solid was first year Sunny Shan, who was third in the same event with a mark of 2:29.95.

Junior Camille Coklow posted a second place finish in the 60-meter dash in an ECAC Division III and New England DIII time of 7.94. She was also 20th in the 200-m dash with a time of 29.54. Senior Dana Fry finished second overall and first among collegiate competitors in the grueling 5,000-meter race. She posted a time of 19:13.74.

Other solid performances included junior Elizabeth DeLeon, who was second in the 1,000-m run with a NE DIII time of 3:10.76. Sophomore Brianna Weir was third in the same event with a time of 3:15.73.

First year Shante Henderson placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in a NE DIII time of 9.70, while senior Jennie Ochterski was ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.40 meters. Additionally, first year Gargi Mishra was ninth in the 600-meter run with a time of 2:14.33, while first year Kelly Stevens was fourth in the 3,000-meter run with a mark of 12:02.47.

The Lyons also saw outstanding success in the 4x800m relay team as DeLeon, Shan, Weir and Rogers combined for a time of 10:22.55 to win the event. The 4x400m team of Coklow, Maria Lewis, Gretchen Rowe and Mia Barnes also posted a solid finish, placing sixth with a time of 4:42.87.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it travels to Hanover, N.H., to compete in the Dartmouth Indoor Classic. The meet begins at 12pm.
