Track & Field Finishes Strong at Aloha Relays

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Strong performances powered the Mount Holyoke College track & field team to a seventh-place finish at the 2015 Aloha Relays, hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday. The Lyons compiled 31 points in the event, while the host Polar Bears took home this year's title.

Leading the effort was senior Dana Fry, who won the grueling 10,000-meter run in a time of 39:22.10. Mount Holyoke's other first place finisher on the day was junior Camille Coklow, who won her signature event – the 100-meter dash – in a time of 12.82.

First year Sunny Shan had a solid effort on the day, placing sixth in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:28.00. She went on to finish fifth in the 1500-meter run with a mark of 4:52.17. Sophomore Brianna Weir also had an outstanding effort, placing second in the challenging 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:17.4.

Also having a solid effort was first year Julia Criscione, who was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.33. Senior Gretchen Rowe was 11th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.96, while first years Mia Barnes (19:34.67), Hannah Gershone (19:41.61) and junior Elizabeth DeLeon (19:53.74) placed 9th, 10th, and 11th, respectively, in the 5000-meter run.

In the field events, senior Jennie Ochterski finished 15th  in the shot put (8.55m). She was also 12th in both the discus (24.36m) and in the hammer (33.48m). Classmate Jenny Spicola was 19th in the shot put (7.54m). Additionally, she placed 14th in both the discus (22.95m) and the hammer (31.94m).

Mount Holyoke is back in action next Saturday when they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to compete at the 2015 NEWMAC Track & Field Championships. The event, which is hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, begins at 11am.
