Track & Field Competes at Smith's Pioneer Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Despite the windy conditions, the Mount Holyoke College track & field team had an outstanding afternoon of performances on Saturday at the 2015 Pioneer Invitational, hosted by Smith College. Among the top finishes included a trio of wins by junior Camille Coklow.

Coklow won the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.19. That time is currently the sixth fastest in Division III thus far. She also captured the 200-meter dash with a mark of 26.21, while also helping the Lyons 4x100 meter relay team to victory with a time of 51.34. Other members of the relay included first year Shante Henderson, senior Amber Legare and first year Maria Lewis.

Henderson went on to win the 100-meter hurdles event, recording a time of 16.01. In the gruelling 10,000-meter run, first year Mia Barnes was the victor, crossing the line with a time of 42:01.52, while classmate Sunny Shan earned the win in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:24.41.

Other outstanding finishes included Kelly Stevens, who was fifth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:31.49 and ninth in the 800-meter run (2:43.00). Lewis also placed fifth in the 100-m dash (13.64) and was sixth in the 200-meter dash (28.42).

The 5,000-meter run saw junior Elizabeth DeLeon and senior Dana Fry finish second (18:51.01) and third (18:59.72).

In the field events, senior Jennie Ochterski was third in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.58 meters, while classmate Jenny Spicola was fifth in the hammer, posting a mark of 33.49 meters.

Legare won the long jump with a mark of 4.89 meters, while Henderson was third in the same event, posting a distance of 4.80 meters. In the high jump, Henderson and Legare both finished fourth, recording a jump of 1.38 meters.

Rounding out the efforts was Legare, who was fifth in the javelin with a distance of 30.44 meters.

The Lyons return to action next weekend when they compete at the Aloha Relays, hosted by Bowdoin College. Competition gets underway on Friday and continues on Saturday.
