Track and field takes second place in first home meet since 2017

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Hosting its first outdoor meet since 2017 on Saturday, the Mount Holyoke track and field team won five events and saw one team record fall as the Lyons placed second in a tri-meet with Smith and Wellesley.

Using a 5-3-2-1 scoring system, Mount Holyoke's 54 points edged Smith (49) for second place in team points, with Wellesley first (82).

Sophomore Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) was responsible for three event wins for Mount Holyoke, which was missing junior multi-event standout Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) due to injury.

Among the Lyons' scoring and other notable performances were:

  • Rimando took first place among eight competitors in the long jump (5.13 meters; 16'10"), first among three competitors in the triple jump (10.16 meters; 33'4.0"), and first among eight competitors in the 100 meters (13.10 seconds).
  • First-year Ioanna Tsoni (Athens, Greece) took first place among 11 athletes in the 200 meters with a time of 26.36 seconds, becoming Mount Holyoke's sixth-fastest ever in the event. The rookie standout was making her collegiate outdoor debut in the event, returning from a two-week absence due to injury.
  • Sophomore Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) took first place among 10 competitors in the hammer throw in a career-best 35.31 meters (115'10")
  • Junior Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) took second place among 10 competitors in the 3,000 meters in 10:20.75, setting Mount Holyoke's record in the relatively seldom-run outdoor event. Lancaster smashed the former record of 10:34.19 set by Katy Trandem in 2001.
  • Junior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) finished second out of seven runners in the 800 meters in a career-best time of 2:20.01. Beaver remains fifth on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the event.
  • Junior Lize Brown (New London, Conn.) finished second in the javelin in a personal-best 29.18 meters (95'9"), passing Andi Villasenor (2005) into eighth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list. Brown also placed third in the shot put at 9.21 meters (30'2.75").
  • Junior Elizabeth Gerbi (Orono, Maine) finished second in her collegiate debut in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.06, replacing Natasha Payes (2008) in 10th place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list.
  • Junior Erin Siegel (San Diego, Calif.) placed third in the javelin in a personal-best 27.93 meters (91'7"), replacing Hillie Haber (2007) at No. 10 on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list. Siegel also placed third in the hammer throw in a personal-best 34.30 meters (112'6").
  • Junior Addison Heintz (Apex, N.C.), Tsoni, Rimando, and first-year Dalia Luckhardt (Cerritos, Calif.) took second place in the 4x100 relay at 50.90 seconds, becoming the fourth fastest 4x100 relay in program history.
  • Senior Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) finished seventh in the 3,000 meters in 11:14.57, passing Mia Barnes (2016) and Emily Baker (2012) into ninth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list.
  • Junior Chloe Broadwell (Plano, Texas) took third place in the discus throw with a personal-best effort of 26.62 meters (87'4"). Broadwell also had a PR in the hammer throw at 27.34 meters (89'8").
  • First-year Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) placed fourth in the 400 meters at 1:04.67 to score a team point for the Lyons.
  • Junior Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) placed fourth in the 1,500 meters at 5:01.99.
  • First-year Fannie Fouron (North Easton, Mass.) placed fourth in the shot put at 8.63 meters (28'3.75") to score a team point for Mount Holyoke.
  • First-year Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) placed third in the high jump at a personal-best 1.27 meters (4'2"), scoring two team points for Mount Holyoke.

Mount Holyoke takes the short trip to Springfield College for the NEWMAC Championships this Friday and Saturday, April 26-27. The Lyons will then host the New England Division III Men's and Women's Championships on the weekend of May 3-4.
