MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- A Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field program record was shattered for the second week in a row on Saturday, as sophomore Elle Rimando broke the Lyons' 22-year-old record in the triple jump by 0.33 meters at the Wesleyan University Invitational.

First-year Ioanna Tsoni (Athens, Greece) also won the 200-meter dash and became the third-fastest Lyon in program history in the 60-meter dash, in an eventful day for Mount Holyoke at the non-scoring meet, which featured 15 teams from Division II and Division III.

Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) actually soared past the former record of 10.90 meters, set by Maggie Mills in 2002, on all three of her fair attempts at the meet, topping out at 11.23 meters (36'10.25") on her sixth and final attempt. Rimando moved from No. 3 on the program's all-time performance list in the event to the top, with the first team record of her career.

Rimando's triple jump heroics came seven days after Tsoni similarly laid waste to the program record book in the 60-meter hurdles, breaking the former record by 0.24 seconds, at 9.17 seconds.

Tsoni didn't run the 60 hurdles Saturday at Wesleyan, but she did make waves on two of the team's all-time performance lists.

Sprinting at the collegiate level for the first time, Tsoni finished the 60-meter dash in 8.15 seconds, nudging ahead of Rimando (8.18) into third place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list. Tsoni's time was the third fastest among 38 contestants at the meet.

Tsoni also ran the fastest time out of 40 athletes running the 200-meter dash, at 26.75 seconds, meanwhile moving into fifth place all-time in the event at Mount Holyoke.

  • Junior Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Lyons in a field of 18 competitors in the mile, with a time of 5:22.08. Junior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) was second (5:39.83) and junior Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) was third (5:48.49).
