Tennis Powers Past Clark in NEWMAC Road Win

WORCESTER, Mass. - It was a clean sweep for the Mount Holyoke College tennis team, which powered its way to a 9-0 victory at Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Lyons improve to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Cougars slip to 2-12 with an 0-6 mark in the NEWMAC.

Action opened in doubles as the first pairing of junior Ching-Ching Huang and senior Ayame Yazawa cruised to an 8-0 win over Jillian Skulsky and Maggie Tarbox. Second doubles was up next as the Lyons duo of junior Catherine Peabody and first year Annissa Aamoum notched an 8-1 win against Anna Gates and Kathryn Benson.

Rounding out the doubles was the third flight as senior Joy Maran and first year Hannah Middleton recorded an 8-5 victory against Chloe Dunnell and Lilly Meadows.

Shifting to singles action, the Lyons grabbed a 4-0 advantage at five as Aamoum earned the win after an injury retirement to Tarbox. At six, Middleton earned a 6-0, 6-2 win against Meadows to move to 5-0 in the match and secure the victory.

From three, Peabody bested Elizabeth Garfield by a 6-0, 6-1 score, while at two, Huang earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Gates. MHC then saw sophomore Anya Gerasimova defeat Elizabeth Tchantouri, 6-3, 6-2.

The match concluded at one as Yazawa earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Skulsky.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Wellesley for a 12pm. Clark is back on the court on Friday at 5pm when it hosts Emerson in Senior Day action.
