ORLANDO, Fla. - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team wrapped-up action in Florida on Friday morning, powering its way to a 4-3 victory over Division II opponent, University of Sioux Falls. The Lyons move to 7-5 on the season, while the Cougars are now 5-8 overall.

Playing the Division II scoring format of seven points, the Lyons earned the point in doubles action as all three duos swept. Senior Ayame Yazawa and junior Ching-Ching Huang posted a 6-1 victory against USF's Lexi Miller and Joelle Thorfinnson from one, followed by a 6-2 winning decision by senior Joy Maran and rookie Hannah Middleton over Brianna Whisler and Tiffany Voss at three. The second doubles pair of junior Catherine Peabody and rookie Annissa Aamoum wrapped up the point against Kelsie Sanders and Rachel Klatt with a 6-4 decision.

The Lyons gained their second point of the match to open singles as Huang faced Megan Quandt at two, winning by a 6-3, 6-1 score. USF cut the lead to 2-1 as Chloe Jefferies bested Yazawa, 6-4, 6-0, but Peabody put the Lyons back up by two with a solid 6-1, 6-2 win over Victoria Ambrosio-Cueto at three. From four, Thorfinnson faced off against Aamoum, earning a 6-3, 6-2 decision, leaving just two matches left on court in the five and six flights.

Needing just one point to secure the win, Maran came through for Mount Holyoke at six, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Emily Applegate to take a 4-2 advantage. Senior captain Clara Wang fought hard at five against USF's Sanders, but was unable to get the decision, falling 6-3, 6-4.

Mount Holyoke returns to the Northeast and will be back on court on Friday when it opens NEWMAC action at MIT. The match is set for a 3:30pm start.
