Guided by 26th-year head coach Aldo Santiago, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team finished with an overall record of 11-10, going 4-4 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Lyons earned the fourth seed in the conference tournament to make their 15th consecutive playoff appearance.
MHC opened the season up with a dominant 9-0 victory at home against Simmons College as first year Annissa Aamoum paired with senior Joy Maran to earn her first collegiate victory – an 8-1 win from third flight doubles.
The Lyons went on to compete in the Grass Court Doubles Championships at the Tennis Hall of Fame Tournament as the squad won the Flight A final and reached the Flight C final to total 12 points and win the overall crown. Junior Ching-Ching Huang and senior Ayame Yazawa combined to win the Flight A title, while Aamoum and Maran advanced to the championship game in Flight C.
Action continued the following weekend at the ITA New England Regional Tournament as all three of its players competed in the singles consolation round. Mount Holyoke carried the momentum from the previous two weeks into its home contest against Division I Holy Cross. Huang earned a tiebreaking victory at second singles to lift the Lyons to a 5-4 win.
Mount Holyoke concluded its fall action, hosting the NEWITT Tournament. The Lyons saw junior Catherine Peabody and Aamoum combing to advance to the B Draw Championship. Following a win over Colby College in doubles action, the Lyons could not hold off Mules in singles action.
The Lyons began the spring semester with a third-place finish at the Seven Sisters Championship, recording wins against Bryn Mawr and Smith. Both Peabody and Huang were on the All-Seven Sisters Team for their efforts.
March was even for the Lyons as they posted a 4-4 mark, including a 3-2 record in Florida action. In addition to a win over Scranton, MHC bested Northwestern (MN) and Division II Sioux Falls. Despite a tough loss to MIT to open NEWMAC action, the Lyons rebounded with a 6-3 win against Emerson.
After dropping matches to Wheaton and Babson to open April, the Lyons bounced back with victories over Springfield and Clark. MHC followed it up with a tough-loss to Wellesley, but bested Smith in the regular season finale.
Mount Holyoke advanced into the NEWMAC Quarterfinals as the fourth seed, hosting fifth-seeded Wheaton for the fourth straight season. The match came down to second singles as Huang shouldered a rough loss in three sets as Wheaton won by a 5-3 margin.
Overall, Peabody led singles action with a 12-6 record. She was 6-2 in NEWMAC action, going 10-4 from #3 singles this season, while also finishing the year on a two-match win streak. Aamoum earned a 10-6 record at singles, including 6-2 from the fifth flight, while sophomore Anya Gerasimova also finished the year with a positive record, going 8-6. She went 6-4 from #4. Both Peabody and Aamoum led the team in doubles action with a 8-3 record, including a 4-2 mark against NEWMAC opponents.
Academically, the Lyons saw six student-athletes named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team, while rookie Hannah Middleton earned All-Sportsmanship Team recognition.
