Dunn wins pair of races as Lyons place third at Sisters Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team finished in a solid third place out of five teams as the Sisters Invitational concluded Sunday in the MHC Natatorium.

Mount Holyoke's 888 points over two days trailed first-place Smith (1,146) and runner-up Wellesley (985.5), while outpacing Simmons (435.5) and Westfield State (291).

"This meet is always a lot of fun for all of the teams," said head coach Dave Allen. "There is so much history and friendly competition between the teams. We had a lot of great performances over the weekend. This is impressive considering the number of meets we've had in the last 10 days."

The Lyons achieved 18 personal best times and 19 season best times at the meet. They collected many top-eight performances at the meet, led by:

  • Sophomore Isabel Dunn (Harbor Springs, Mich.) was victorious Saturday in both the 50- and 100-yard butterfly with times of 27.20 seconds and 59.90 seconds, respectively. Dunn also placed eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:20.51).
  • First-year Katherine Upton (Cambridge, Mass.) scored 254.70 points in 1-meter diving to place fourth out of eight competitors. Sophomore Hermione Hatch (Vail, Ariz.) came in sixth (111.40) and junior Ainsley Gruener (Topsfield, Mass.) placed seventh (102.70).
  • Junior Sophie Allen (Lopez Island, Wash.) placed fourth in the 50 free (25.92), fifth in the 50-yard backstroke (30.18), and fifth in the 100 back (1:05.76).
  • Senior Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) placed fourth in the 1,650 freestyle (19:50.44), seventh in the 200 fly (2:30.14) and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (5:53.35).
  • Senior Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.) placed fifth in the 50 breaststroke (33.58), tied for fifth in the 50 free (26.15), placed seventh in the 100 free (57.62) and seventh in the 100 breast (1:14.34).
  • Senior Kamlyn Yosick (Portland, Ore.) tied for fifth place in the 50 free (26.15), was seventh in the 100 back (1:06.79), and took eighth place in the 50 back (32.15).
  • Sophomore Rebecca Pursner (Watkinsville, Ga.) placed fifth in the 1,650 freestyle (21:13.28).b
  • First-year Lucia Jacques (Grand Rapids, Mich.) took sixth place in the 100 back (1:06.13).
  • Sophomore Zoey Zhu (Sturbridge, Mass.) took seventh place in the 50 back (31.05) and in the 200 back (2:29.98).
  • Sophomore Madeline Hood (The Colony, Texas) placed seventh in the 400-yard individual medley (5:23.26) and eighth in the 200 free (2:14.41).
  • Senior Annabeth Loftman (Menlo Park, Calif.) placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:47.60).
  • First-year Michelle Su (Helotes, Texas) placed eighth in the 400-yard individual medley (5:36.77).
  • First-year Rowyn Farley (Pontiac, Mich.) placed eighth in the 1,650 free (21:46.50).
  • Placing second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.18 were Yosick, Farley, Allen and Schneider.
  • In the final event of the meet, Allen, Dunn, Yosick and Heierhoff combined to place second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:52.21).

The Lyons compete at the Skidmore Sprint Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1.
