SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team hosted their first conference meet of the season against Wellesley College on Saturday, getting outscored 157-122.

"It was a great effort by the team today. There were a lot of close races and people really dug deep and showed a lot of grit," said Lyons head coach Dave Allen. "A few swimmers set personal bests as well. Our divers also did a great job and really are improving week to week."

During the 400 freestyle relay, the Lyons trailed Wellesley's A relay team by over three seconds. When senior Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.) dived in, she was able to shorten the gap, touching the wall a little over one second after Wellesley's third swimmer. Senior Kamlyn Yosick (Portland, Ore.) dived in and was able to close the gap in the first 50 and secure the win for the Lyons in the event.

Top event performances and highlights by Mount Holyoke include:
  • Schneider won the 50 yard freestyle and placed second in the 100 yard freestyle. She was also a part of the first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay and the second-place 200 medley relay.
  • Sophomore Isabel Dunn (Harbor Springs, Mich.) won the 100 yard butterfly and placed second in the 200 yard butterfly.
  • Senior Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) placed second in the 200 yard backstroke and the 200 yard freestyle.
  • Junior Sophie Allen (Lopez Island, Wash.) out-touched Wellesley's top swimmer in the 100 backstroke and placed third in the 200 yard backstroke.
The Lyons are on the road for their next meet, the Don Richards Invitational hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology on Dec. 6-7.
