Soccer Draws With Wellesley in Season Finale; Breen Posts Career-Best 16 Saves

Wellesley, Mass. - October 30, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team finished the 2021 regular season with a draw at Wellesley in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday.

Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Breen (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) was tremendous in the draw, as they came up with a career-best 16 saves in 110 minutes of play. Wellesley held a 38-3 shot advantage at the contest's end.

Wellesley applied some early pressure on the Lyons' goal as the Blue produced a pair of shots in the first 4:44 of action, with Breen making an early stop on Marleigh Ausbrooks to keep the game scoreless. Mount Holyoke got their first shot of the game in the eighth minute as Hannah Ellis (Londonderry, N.H.) took a bid that went just wide.

Blue looked to take a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute but first-year midfielder Avery Livingston (La Grange, Ill.) came up big and cleared the ball off the goal line to keep the Blue's offense off the scoreboard.

Breen would pick up seven first-half saves as the game went into the halftime break scoreless.

Mount Holyoke College continued to hold up defensively for the duration of the second half as Breen's save total climbed to 13 and the two sides would remain even at 0-0 after 90 minutes of play.

Wellesley continued to press in the overtime periods, generating five shots, but Breen came up with a pair of saves as the two sides walked off after 110 minutes in a 0-0 tie. Sarah Forster (Worcester, Mass.), also recorded a shot on goal during the first overtime period, but it was turned away by Wellesley's goalkeeper.
