Soccer Drops NEWMAC Decision with Emerson

Boston, Mass. - October 2, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team fell to host Emerson College, 6-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field.

With the loss, the Lyons are now 2-5 on the year and 0-3 in the league, while Emerson improves to 4-3 overall with a 1-1 record in the NEWMAC. The hosts held a 28-1 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play and were granted 10 corner kicks in the victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Breen (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) made 10 stops in the setback.

Emerson got on the board just 8:47 into the contest as Grace Cosgrove found the back of the net on an assist from Gina Lukoskie. From there, the Lyons tightened up defensively until the 25th minute when Emerson took a 2-0 lead on Cosgrove's second of the contest, this time set up by Eliza Corbett.

With 4:24 to play in the half, Emerson took a 3-0 lead followinga goal from Josephine Mazza to give the Lions a 3-0 lead at the halftime break.

Coming out of the half, Emerson quickly added their fourth goal of the contest as Simone Barragan-Shaw converted a feed from Lukoskie. Mount Holyoke was able to generate some offense with under 15 minutes to play as Fionna Kennedy (Wilton, N.H.) delivered a shot that went just wide of the Emerson net. The hosts then added a pair late, receiving strikes from Cosgrove and Carlson to seal the 6-0 win.

Mount Holyoke College will now return to the MHC Soccer Field for a battle with nationally-ranked Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 6. The game is slated for 6 p.m.
