Soccer Prevails at Mitchell in Non-Conference Play

New London, Conn. - September 21, 2021 - First-year forward Hannah Keochakian (Amherst, Mass.) found the back of the net twice as the Mount Holyoke College soccer team prevailed over Mitchell College, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Lyons are now 2-3 overall while the Mariners fall to 2-4-1 on the year. Mount Holyoke College held a 25-5 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, while the Lyons were also awarded a pair of corner kicks compared to the Mariners' one. Mitchell committed 13 fouls in the setback.

In net for the Lyons, Shannon Breen (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) earned their second-career win with three stops while Mitchell's Gemma Landry and Angelina Munoz split duties for the hosts and combined for 12 total saves.

Mount Holyoke College pressed the Mariners' cage early on in the contest as Keochakian produced a pair of shots that were turned away in the first seven minutes, before Rocio Perez-Salas (Dorado, Puerto Rico) also had a bid stopped by Munoz in the 10th minute.

Mitchell countered with a pair of chances just 52 seconds apart, but both were stopped by Breen to keep the Mariners at bay.

Mount Holyoke College got on the board with 16:47 to play in the first half when Perez-Salas took advantage of a failed clear from the Mariners' back line and drilled a shot from 16-yards out past Munoz to give Mount Holyoke a 1-0 advantage.

Closing out the first half, both Sarah Forster (Worcester, Mass.) and Avery Livingston (La Grange, Ill.) were able to produce offense but were unable to convert, sending the Lyons into the halftime break up 1-0.

Coming out of the break, the Lyons added to their lead when Perez-Salas set up Keochakian for her second goal of the year, before the first year added a second with 19:44 remaining to seal the 3-0 win. Keochakian's second goal of the contest was assisted by Morgan Neal (Hatfield, Mass.).

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, September 25 and will travel to nationally-ranked MIT for a 1 p.m. kick off.
