Nationally-Ranked MIT Prevails Over Soccer, 4-0

Cambridge, Mass. - September 25, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team traveled to nationally-ranked MIT on Saturday afternoon and fell to the host Engineers, 4-0, at Roberts Field.

With the loss, the Lyons fall to 2-4 on the year and 0-2 in conference play, while the Engineers, which were ranked No. 6 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III Rankings, improves to 8-0-1 on the year with a 2-0 mark in the NEWMAC. 

All of MIT's goals came in the first half of play as Mia Sedgwick notched her third of the season just 32 seconds into the contest, before Kayla Villa pushed the Engineers' lead to a pair just 3:40 later.

With 19:05 to play in the first half, Sarah Moseson scored her first goal of the season to make it 3-0, MIT, before Alexis Spinetta picked up an unassisted strike with 13:30 to play to make it 4-0 heading into the halftime break.

Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Breen (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) played all 90 minutes of the contest and made 12 saves in the setback.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will travel to Boston, Mass. on Saturday, October 2 for a 1 p.m. NEWMAC contest versus Emerson.
