Soccer Drops NEWMAC Decision to Babson

South Hadley, Mass. - October 16, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College soccer team fell to visiting Babson College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at the MHC Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.

The loss brings the Lyons to 2-8 on the year and 0-6 in the NEWMAC, while with the win, the Beavers improve to 7-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play. Babson held a 41-6 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play and had six corner kicks compared to the Lyons' two.

In net, Shannon Breen (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) shouldered the loss as they made 10 stops in the contest, while Babson's Morgan Fedosiewich and Lindy Moss split halves and combined for a clean sheet.

Babson got on the board just 6:43 into the contest when Kate Ryan sent in a corner kick, which was originally sent out of the box by a Mount Holyoke defender, but Ryan caught up to the loose ball and launched a shot over the hands of Breen to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.

Just 2:44 later, Babson doubled its advantage as Morgan Krauss beat her defender down the right side of the field before sending a cross into the box that connected with Ryan for her second goal of the contest and fourth goal of the season, making it 2-0, Beavers.

The visitors scored their third and final goal of the first half with 7:22 remaining as Jordyn Ferrantino controlled a throw in on the left sideline before making a great run down the left flank and tucking a shot into the bottom left corner of the net for her first goal of the season, granting Babson a 3-0 lead before the halftime break.

It took just 6:48 into the second half for the Beavers to extend their lead to four as Molly Roy sent in a ball from the right side to Elisa Diletzia, who made a great move at the top of the box to get loose for a right-footed blast past Breen. Just 1:22 later, Diletzia notched her second of the contest following a long direct free kick from Julia Milke, as the first-year played a ball deep in Lyons' territory before Diletzia caught up to it and snuck a shot past Breen to make it 5-0.

Babson continued to pour it on as Camryn Ward netted her first-career goal after forcing a turnover at midfield and launching a shot over Breen, who was well out of the cage, before Roy converted a chance from 10-yards outside the box that carried into the top right corner of the net to make it 7-0.

In the last 20 minutes of the game, the Beavers would strike twice more as Jordan Keovongmanysa found the back of the net after being set up by Carolina Silva, before Silva netted one of her own on an unselfish feed from Diletzia.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will head to Smith College on Wednesday, October 20 for a 3 p.m. contest versus the Pioneers in NEWMAC play.
